Questions private candidates ask about exam centres in London
Where can I sit GCSE or A-Level exams as a private candidate in London?
+
At a JCQ-registered partner examination centre in the area of London you choose. London Elite Exams places private candidates in ten areas, from Stratford and Ilford to Ealing, Harrow, Croydon, Kingston, Greenwich, Camden, Canary Wharf and Westminster, and makes the entry with the awarding body on your behalf.
Is London Elite Exams an exam centre?
+
London Elite Exams is an examination entry service. Every exam we arrange is sat at a JCQ-registered partner centre, under the same JCQ regulations and invigilation as that centre's own candidates. The centre number belongs to the partner centre and appears on your Statement of Entry; your certificate is issued by the awarding body.
Which exam centre will I sit at?
+
A JCQ-registered partner examination centre in the part of London you choose, subject to availability for your subjects and series. We confirm the centre, its address and arrival instructions to you in writing once your booking is complete, and they appear again on your Statement of Entry.
Can I sit all my subjects at the same centre?
+
Usually yes. Partner centres accept entries for AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge International and WJEC Eduqas, so a mixed set of subjects, for example OCR Chemistry, Edexcel Mathematics and AQA Psychology, is normally sat at one centre. If a subject is not available at your chosen area we tell you before the entry is made.
Which exam boards can private candidates enter with?
+
AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge International and WJEC Eduqas. We enter GCSE, International GCSE, AS and A-Level and Functional Skills, and the entry is made under the specification code you choose, so the papers, dates and certificate are the same as for a school candidate.
Can private candidates do science practicals and language speaking tests in London?
+
Yes, where the partner centre offers them. A-Level science practical endorsements are arranged at centres with CPAC-approved laboratories, and GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level language speaking tests are conducted and recorded at the centre for the awarding body. Tell us at booking so a suitable centre is chosen.
What do I get for the fee?
+
Everything you need to sit your exam as a private candidate, in one published fee per subject. We make and check your entry with the awarding body and pay the board fee, arrange your seat and invigilation at a JCQ-registered partner centre, send your Statement of Entry and personal timetable, support you up to and on exam day, send your results on results day, and let you know when your certificate is available.
Do you accept candidates from outside London or from abroad?
+
Yes. Home-educated students, adult learners, resit candidates and international candidates all enter the same way. You need a current passport or UK photocard driving licence as identification on the day and must attend the London centre in person for every paper, including speaking tests, which may be timetabled before the written papers.
